Inside Look at Tavernpointe

Located in the heart of Midtown is Tavernpointe, a fairly new gastropub. If you are a fan of GRAIN or Seven Lamps, two restaurants churning out excellent food and cocktails, Tavernpointe will not disappoint. Tavernpointe is not the easiest to spot, so you need to be on the lookout for it if you are planning to visit.

Besides many local beers on draft and a terrific selection of wines, all wines are offered by the glass or bottle. I had the Time Invested cocktail with tequila, pear cordial, aperol, green tea and celery bitters. I thought it might be too many ingredients, which can result in an unimpressive cocktail, but it was balanced perfectly, not too strong or sweet.

Now, you could sit at the bar and have cocktails or wine and graze on selections from the Snacks or Appetizers section of the menu and be perfectly satisfied. The bar is huge and it’s a focal point of the dining room.

If you have a group, grab a table and start with some tasty appetizers like the Mussels our Poutine Fries. The Mussels had a fragrant aroma with the addition of saffron and we loved the smoky tomatoes that added a delicious layer of flavor to the dish too.

Then move on to a seafood dish like Scallops or Swordfish or try their Smoked Peruvian Meats.   Their smoked meats are sure to have you coming back with their slow roasted flavor and juicy morsels. Make sure you save room to at least share one dessert as Tavernpointe’s chef makes the desserts in house. The sticky toffee date cake and sorbets were excellent.

Looking to save some bucks? Stop by for happy hour between 4:30 and 6:30 Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Specials are between $2 and $3. Tip: Across the lobby from Tavernpointe is a theatre, so you could easily make an evening of it, catching a show after dinner.
