Healthy Eating Habits to Start Your Year Off Right

Spoiler Alert: 2016 is approaching fast and we don’t know about you, but here at Split we’re trying to slay it. We are on a mission to allow you to dine on your own time and that productivity stems from having a well-balanced and healthy lifestyle. Sure, drinking beer and eating chicken wings every day might be delicious, but after a while it’ll wear you down. So, let’s get ahead of the #PostHolidayStruggle with these dope foodie tips that can help boost our productivity and keep you feeling fresh for 2016 and beyond!



It’s cold (or unseasonably warm, WTF?) and if you’re in ATL, probably raining. All you’re craving is Krispie Kremes and Lays chips, but we’re here to tell you that sugar + trans fat = major mood swings with a side of depression. Instead, try getting your Omega 3’s on by munching down on avocados, walnuts, fatty fishes, or any of these great supplements. And, since the sun might not be out to give you that lovely Vit D, try a tall glass of whole milk or popping more healthy pills like dis!


Get Yo Sleep On, Get yo Sleep on

A restorative and restful night’s sleep is the key to productivity throughout your work-day (or day off) Studies show that adults should be getting somewhere between 7-9 hours of shut-eye a night and apparently eating healthier can help you achieve that seemingly impossible goal. We recommend you fill your daily meals with a variety of foods high in antioxidants like blueberrys, blackberries, cranberries, or artichokes; stay uber hydrated by drinking lots of water - or if bubbly is your thing, we love any flavor of La Croix; and keep that super shugary pint of Half Baked in the freezer during Late Night with Seth Myers. Also, don’t eat before bed! Food comas are no joke, but you’ll sleep better if your body isn’t trying to digest a five course dinner that you finished 10 minutes prior to passing out.

Stress and anxiety are contagious in the workplace. But, did you know that aside from meditating (and medicating), flavonoid-rich dark CHOCOLATE can actually help alleviate these unwanted emotional enemies? It's true, even the Journal of the American College of Cardiology says so, not that you needed an excuse to eat more chocolate.


Fruits and veggies: the key to eternal life:

Sadly, we don’t live in a world where eternal life exists… or maybe we do and we just don’t know about it yet. But let’s just say we don't, and we want to live as long as possible, right? Well, a 2014 Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health Study shows that eating 7+ daily servings of veggies and fruits can boost your less-likely-to-keel-over-and-die-randomly chances by 42%! So make sure to take down as many as you can throughout your day (smoothies hint hint cough cough are a great way to do this). That you can endure long into the future as the boss bitch that you are.
