Top 4 Shockingly Amazing Vegetarian Spots

Most people, carnivores, assume that dining out can be difficult for vegetarians, especially in the South.  I am here to tell you that Atlanta has so many great restaurants that offer phenomenal vegetarian options and dishes. Here are some of my favorite cuisines at non-traditionally vegetarian local restaurants in and around Atlanta.

TUK TUK

Mieng Kum

My wife and I love Tuk Tuk - it is one of the best Thai places in Atlanta, their view of the city isn’t too bad either. Most ethnic places will have vegetarian dishes and usually allow you to substitute meat with other alternatives, more veggies or tofu. Everything is amazing here but you have to start off with Mieng Kum, a spinach leaf wrap with lime, ginger, onions, roasted peanuts, and coconut. This small plate packs a lot of flavor and kick - hands down it is my favorite small plate in Atlanta.

The vortex

Hell's Fury Burger

This restaurant is iconic as they come. In my opinion, Vortex could compete with the notoriety of The Varsity.  This place isn’t for the faint-hearted and some of the menu options aren’t either. I know what you are thinking, how can a burger joint make the list for vegetarians? The burger options are amazing and the meat patties can be substituted for vegetarian options. For those that like to live on the wild side, I would recommend the Hell’s Fury burger with their black bean patty and side of tots.  It is topped off with their atomic-death sauce, habanero relish, and roasted jalapeno -  need I say more? I will take two to-go!

Kimi's Bistro

Veggie Plate

If you have never had Ethiopian food before, Kimi’s is where you want to start your journey. This hidden gem in Little Five points is a must for all vegetarians and my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in the city. At times, it is hard to find a seat in this place but it’s worth the wait.  Everything coming out of Kimi’s kitchen is mouth-savoring and finger-licking great! I recommend getting their Veggie Plate and you can’t go wrong with any of their veggie options. My personal favorite is the Misir Wet - red lentils with their spicy sauce.

Delia's Chicken Sausage Stand

Gun Slinger "clucked off"

Don’t let the name fool you, this is a great place for any foodie, especially vegetarians. Thanks to this amazing place I have added a new phrase to my lexicon - “cluck off”. These two words will change your life forever and automatically teleport you to heaven. Delia’s has a great menu selection and the best part is that all slider and slinger options can be “veggified”. It is simple - select your item and tell the server to “cluck off”. This lets them know to make this item from scratch and it is all vegetarian. I always get the Gunn Slinger which is topped off with jalapenos (fresh...none of that weak pickled sh*t) and their famous “comeback sauce”. The sauce has me coming back and I am sure it will do the same for you.
